Lake Park, Georgia, located 14 miles south of Valdosta, was conceived in 1886 when Lawrence A. Wisenbaker gave the right-of-way through his farm to the Georgia Southern & Florida Railroad. Mr. Wisenbaker and a group of leading citizens from other towns around Georgia formed the Lake Park Improvement Company, which laid plans for the proposed town. Lake Park was incorporated in 1890 and named so because of the many beautiful lakes in the region.
Lake Park residents enjoy fishing, boating and sailing year round in its temperate climate, as well as golfing on the popular Francis Lake Golf Club. Shopping is also a year-round favored activity with the convenient location of the Lake Park Outlet stores and Farm House Plaza, which also includes an antiques mall, both located directly off I-75 on exit 5.
Community comes together often in Lake Park with celebrations on the Fourth of July and a Christmas parade and the always enjoyable Lake Park Georgia Christmas at the Lakes, displays of beautifully lighted Christmas trees floating on area lakes during the holiday season.
Another jewel in Lake Park's community crown is the South Lowndes Recreational Complex with baseball, softball, football and soccer fields for area youth - complete with pavilion.
