Tifton is also listed in “The 100 Best Small Towns in America,” by best selling author Norman Crampton, garnering the nomination for its economic growth, low crime rate, excellent schools and high percentage of college-educated residents. Tifton's Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is a State College of the 35-member University System of Georgia and now offers bachelor’s degrees as well as associate's degrees. Another of Tifton's claim to fame is “Turf Grass Capital of the World.” In addition to providing coverage for millions of acres of golf courses throughout the United States, Tifton is home to four scenic golf courses. Approximately one hour north of Valdosta, Tifton is home to The Georgia Agrirama, a living museum where interpreters share Georgia's rural 19th century lifestyle.
